***May contain spoilers! I don’t think so, but I don’t know what everyone here may or may not consider to be “spoilers”***
So, I came to this series after being introduced to Xenogears, which is now my favorite game ever! This game, I didn’t know what to think at first, I was fed up with it at first. Not a lot of playing time, hour longs cutscenes, using a lot of vague descriptions of things, “The Incident” and “Him” “It” “The Time 10 years ago” and it’s fine when you have a couple of those, but sometimes, you’d have a sentence with like… 5 of these vague subjects mentioned? Anyway, we got stuck pretty close to the beginning and gave up on it. A month or so later, we decided to give it another go, and this time, we actually made it through to the end, and we found ourselves quite impressed with how things were unraveling and building up in new forms.
Xenosaga 2 was a little bit of a shocker, the art style was so different, new voice actors, and jesus CHRIST I hated, HATED Shion with her random out of the blue hatred for her brother! (Granted I am a HUGE fan of Jin Uzuki, especially because of his similarities to Citan Uzuki from Xenogears) That aside, I was really drawn into the plot, and I also enjoyed the peak into Jr’s past and whatnots… and again… Jin Uzuki, he was introduced, which is one of the only reasons we even started this series XD All in all, it wasn’t bad (and technically we still have to beat the last boss buuuut since the episodes give plot recaps and stuff, we figured it’d be fine to start on III instead of getting frustrated and putting the series away for another 2 months)
So now we come to Xenosaga episode III, my god! They took out one of my favorite things, the battle system. One of the things we loved so much about the Xeno series before was that you could put in button commands to do varying combos and whatnots. However, I loved this addition to the series regardless! Shion seems to have done SOMETHING to make me less annoyed with her. I’m not sure what, but ah well. Finally, the loose ends are wrapping up and everything you didn’t understand in episode I is coming to light and making sense, and it’s still pulling some unexpected twists out of its belt. I really have to respect this game though, because I do not often end up bawling my eyes out over games, or movies/books for that matter, but this one, my goodness!!! This one really tugged on my heart strings!!! Not in the same places that it pulled at the strings of most other fans’ hearts, but still!
So in short, play this series!! Play Xenogears, and play Xenosaga! Both grand games! You will laugh and cry, you will be flabbergasted at points and utterly pissed off at others! Plus you can blow crap up :D Anyway, those who play this game, definitely need to message me, so I can rant at you about how sad I am over the third episode XD
